Battersea News September 2009

Battersea Xanadu, our two year old colt, qualified for the 2009 Dressage at Devon breed division, held September 22-24 in Devon, Pa. Dressage at Devon is the largest dressage show in the World, with 30,000 spectators and over 1,000 horses of all breeds. At Devon he will compete in the open 2 year old colts and geldings class against all breeds, and against all ages of Morgans in the Morgan class. Xanadu competed last year and this year in-hand at Dressage at Lexington, Mid-Atlantic Morgan Show and Old Dominion Morgan Show, all at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington.

Battersea Stud, started its Morgan Sport Horse breeding program in Upper Marlboro and later at historic Harmony Hall in Prince Georges Historic District, Broad Creek on the Potomac River. Battersea started out its 30th anniversary of breeding with a championship in Virginia. Battersea Xanadu, a colt from our 5th generation of breeding, repeated his Old Dominion Sport Horse Suitability Overall Championship again September 4 at the Old Dominion Morgan Horse Show at the Virginia Horse Center. Xanadu, as a yearling won the Sport Horse Suitability Perpetual Trophy in the dressage divison with the highest score ever on the trophy of 83.00.

With Maryland dressage judge, Dede Bierbaur, he regained the trophy with a score of 78.8 which qualified him for Dressage at Devon, September 24. Battersea Xanadu has been trained and handled since a yearling by Kimber Sobeck of Glasgow, Va. who will handle him at Devon. The colt was sired by Statesman Farm's stallion, Chief of State, owned by Lynne Shpak of Woodstock, MD. Battersea Xanadu will be relocated after the Devon event to train with Shpak in Maryland. Battersea Stud has had a continuing breeding relationship with Statesman Farm for many years. Photos below of Xanadu by Brian Daley.

Battersea Yonder

2008 Chestnut Colt

Our Golden Boy. Yonder is a beautiful copper/gold colt with an almost white mane and tail. He is a fun horse to have around and he should do just about anything you want him to do. A little training will have Yonder in the show ring - show him in hand as a yearling and competing in the Georgia area. $3500

Battersea Yorktown
Caduceus Nicholas X Battersea Katie Scarlett
2008 Chestnut Colt

Yorktown's sire and dam, Nicholas and Katie, are considered a golden cross for Battersea Stud. Earl Lloyd's very successful bay pair are proof of the cross. Yorktown is a full brother to Battersea Willow and we consider him the best of these horses, and the best colt Caduceus Nicholas has sired. Nicholas has excelled in the pleasure driving world. When Nicholas is in harness you would not believe you are driving a stallion. Yorktown shows this same mild behavior. He could be your foundation sire and/or a superior performance horse. $3500
